The latest edition to our Terrerium! A Toad!

Now that our Terrerium has lots of beautiful and healthy plants growing, it was time to add someone who could enjoy it. On Tuesday we walked to the pet store and bought a little Fire Belly Toad. While there I asked the yeladim what they wanted to name him. They unanimously came up with the name Ainee. I have no idea who came up with it how and when, but they all seemed decided when I asked :)

Ainee seems to be eating well. We bought 30 crickets and put them in to the terrerium figuring he would eat when he is hungry. The pet store guy said he eats 3 a day. As of this morning we have about 4 left.As you can see the yeladim love Ainee and are thrilled to have him in our class.

A visit from the Doctor!!!

This morning our class had a visit from a very special Doctor! Dr. Boris, Emy's Poppy! He taught us all about staying healthy. We have to eat healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, meat, and cheese. These will make us strong! We also have to wash our hands to get rid of germs.
He listened to the yeladim's heartbeats... and then everyone got a turn!

The Yeladim had a GREAT time at the Zoo today!

Painting Catepillars

Catepillar Poem

TTO: Itsy Bitsy Spider

The Fuzzy little catepiller
curled up on her leaf
spun her Chrysalis and then fell asleep
while she was sleeping
she dreamed that she could fly
when she woke up
she was a butterfly!

Catepillars!

This past week we got some catepillars for our class. We saw them come in as tiny little catepillars and watched them grow bigger, crawl up to the top of their container and change into their chrysalis! This has been a very exciting process stay tuned!

Solar Smores and Tea

Last week we made smores and tea using the sun. We put chocolate and marshmellows on top of graham crackers which we placed in a big pizza box. We also put tea bags and water into a pitcher. We placed these on top of a car in the parking lot and let the sun do its job. About an hour later we enjoyed delicios smores and tea! The sun was hot enough to melt the chocolate and make the tea warm! (Sorry we don't have pictures, our camera wasn't working :(  )

Disappearing Water!

Today we did a science experiment in connection with our new theme The Sun. We painted the yard with water. Afterward we took a break and played around in the yard. About a half an hour later we all got back together and noticed that the water was gone!
The yeladim were SHOCKED! Some children took guesses as to what happened.
Yonni- To the sun because the sun liked it.
Shlomie- The wind blew it away.
Nosson- It went on the train.
Emy- To the water park
Shimon- Everywhere
Zaylin- The sun went down, he tell him, and the sun dry the water.

We went back upstairs and found out just what had happened! When the sun shines its warmth down it makes water from puddles and rivers and oceans go up to the sky there it forms clouds. This is called evaporation. When the clouds get so full with water they start to rain. Here we demonstrated this with cotton balls and water. Later on I turned on an electric kettle and we watched the steam come out as the water became hot.

Shape Review Game

Since most of the Yeladim know most of the shapes we will now until the end of the year be reviewing. Today we played a shape beanbag toss game.
